Xylometazoline is a topical nasal decongestant used to relieve nasal congestion.

Uses

• Relief of nasal congestion due to:

  • Common cold

  • Allergic rhinitis (hay fever)

  • Sinusitis

  • Nasal allergies and inflammation

Mechanism of Action

• Xylometazoline is a sympathomimetic agent that stimulates alpha-adrenergic receptors in the nasal mucosa.

• This causes vasoconstriction (narrowing of blood vessels), reducing swelling and congestion in the nasal passages, allowing easier breathing.

Dosage and Administration

• Usually, 1-2 drops or sprays into each nostril every 8-12 hours, not exceeding 3 doses per day.

• Use for no more than 3 consecutive days to avoid rebound congestion (rhinitis medicamentosa).

• Blow your nose gently before application.

• Avoid contamination by not sharing the bottle and not touching the tip to your nostrils.
